Summer Road Trip!

(Philippians 4:19-23) Are you doing your homework? We cannot expect change through simply hearing, but by doing what we hear. Today we learn to live by faith and do all for God’s glory while depending on His grace. Ultimately, the secret to a happy home is living in the presence of God. He is the goal! (06162220708) 

(Philippians 4:10-18) In 1900, average Americans were asked what things they felt were indispensable to life as comfortable and contented people. The list averaged 72 items. 50 years later the survey was conducted again, and the list had grown to a number we’ll learn in today’s lesson. We’ll also learn the role of contentment and service in a happy Christian home. (06161220707) 

(Philippians 4:8-9) Who decides what you think? We all have a responsibility to guard and guide our own thought life. We can do this by choosing to fill our homes with the things that lead to good thoughts! We should also identify couples and families who are joyfully following the Lord and follow their example. (Philippians 4:5-7) Our families must be prepared to deal with the road bumps along life’s journey. Two habits of a happy home that will serve as “shock absorbers” throughout the journey are these: Treat one another gently; turn cares to prayers and trials to thanks. (06159220705) 

(Philippians 4:1-4) Quarrels and disappointments are inevitable in a home. As we come to the final chapter of Philippians, we will “work out” its truths by embracing 10 habits found in happy homes. Let’s start with overcoming quarrels and choosing joy! (06158220704) 

(Philippians 3:15-21) Philippians 3 ends on a hopeful note. When Christ has His proper place in the home, everything else will be in the right place. Invite Him into your home every day. He alone is our hope and the reason our families have hope for the future! (06156220701)

(Philippians 3:8-14) Much of what families pursue today is good, but not best. Paul had dedicated his life to God, pursued higher education, and accomplished much, yet he counted all this as “dung” compared to the value of pursuing Christ. Our homes will be truly Christian when Christ becomes our greatest pursuit! (06155220630) 

(Philippians 3:4-7) The apostle Paul had the equivalent of three PhD’s, and yet he said he counted it all as loss. When we put our confidence in the other members of our family to be all that we need or seek, we will always be disappointed, regardless of how much they have to offer. Only Christ is worthy of our total confidence. (06154220629) 

(Philippians 3:1-3) It may be possible to have a happy home without Christ because happiness comes from what happens outside of us. But joy comes from within, and true joy can only be found in Christ.  As we learn of Christ, our Joy, we will see how truth, warnings, and worship all play a part in a joy-filled home. (Philippians 3:1, 21) The essence of a Christian home is the presence of Christ. A home may be moral or religious or even somewhat sterile due to an abundance of rules, but without Christ it is not a Christian home.
